How to Make Fishing Cake the Easy Way?

This year was my husband’s fortieth birthday, and since he loves to fish, I made him a fish-shaped cake. I wasn’t sure if I could still make this kind of cake because it had been a few years since I had created one.

I have attempted to be as general as possible, but it is difficult when there are so many names for the same product.

That being said, you are welcome to use comparable goods that are named differently than what I have done to ice and decorate the cake.

Although it is sometimes referred to as ready-to-roll icing or rolled fondant icing, I have just mentioned sugar paste icing because that is what I am aware of.

I want to provide you the recipe for this fishing cake, which you are free to modify however you see fit.

Ingredients You Would Need

  • One 9×13 cake, any flavor
  • Buttercream icing
  • Blue food coloring
  • Black food coloring
  • Pretzel stick
  • Gummy fish
  • Green fruit roll up
  • Alphabet (optional)
  • Candy melts (optional)

Here’s How You Can Make It

Apply a crumb coat of white buttercream frosting to the entire 9-by-13 cake. At this stage, I normally place the cake in the freezer for a short while to firm it up and facilitate a smooth application of the second coat.

On the top part of the cake, which will represent the sky, spread the second coat of white buttercream.

Spread the white, which will be your water, across the bottom half of the cake after blending a tiny bit of blue food coloring into it.

This need not be smooth; in fact, I prefer to leave this section a little unkempt, with swoosh lines to resemble waves or flowing water.

If you’d like, you can write “Happy Birthday” on it using candy letters or buttercream frosting. To determine how much space I have to work with, I like to complete this first. I thought it would be fun to give the alphabets a try, so I used it for this cake. I purchased it online when I was out getting supplies because it was short on budget.

Because of my horrible handwriting, I appreciated that I could reuse the mold for a variety of purposes. A few days later, on his brother’s birthday, it was again utilized on this sports cake.

After taking the pictures, I also created my son’s name in capital letters and put them to the water surrounding the fish.

For privacy reasons, I don’t post their names online, but I wanted to let you know that it’s a possibility. Alternatively, it looks adorable without.

You can now add the pretzel stick for the fishing pole after you have determined where your letters should go.

Blend in a tiny quantity of buttercream icing with the black food coloring (I like to use the gel kind, especially for black; you can also just buy a small black tube to save you time and effort if you want). Pipe the black frosting in the shape of a fishing line.

Here’s Another Recipe…

  • Prepare and bake the cakes as directed on the package. Before you pour the cake batter into the pans, sprinkle the nonstick cooking spray on them.
  • After the cakes are done, invert them onto a cooling rack to finish cooling.
  • Use a serrated knife to level the tops of the cakes after they have cooled.
  • Wrap pretty foil around a round fishing cake board that measures 10 inches.
  • Use the delphinium food coloring to tint the majority of the frosting. With the red food coloring, reserve about 1/3 cup of the icing and dye it red.
  • In the center of the cake board, place a dollop of icing and spread it out. First, place the cake, cut side down, on top of the frosting.
  • Cover the cake with a layer of blue icing and arrange the second cake, cut side down, on top. To give the icing time to somewhat dry, let the cake sit for a few minutes. Using your fingers, spread the icing over a sheet of wax paper.
  • Fill the pastry bag fitted with the Wilton #5 piping tip with the crimson icing. Put “Live Bait” through the cake’s opening.
  • Using a rolling pin or a heavy bottom cup, crush up roughly half of the bag of Oreo cookies in a plastic bag.
  • Evenly distribute the smashed cookies on the top of the cake using a gentle pouring technique.
  • Use a moist cloth to remove any extra frosting or crumbs from the area surrounding the cake and cake board.
  • When the cake is covered with the gummy worms, it’s time to serve!
